Scouting Report-Robinson is one of those outstanding players, who no one really gets to see be outstanding. The reason is, he doesn't get thrown on a lot, and typically when he's covering his man, he doesn't get a ton of TV time. That's unfortunate becuase he really is an exceptional player. I actually have gone back and watched 4 of his games from this year, and like him much more now. His size and bulk are more than adequate for the NFL. He has much better top end speed than I realized. And he's got really quick feet which is a good thing and a bad thing. his hip turn is a little slow so he is losing speed in his turn. Comparing him to Florida's Joe Haden, Robinson has a much more deliberate turn, and you can see him have to catch up, whereas Haden loses almost nothing in his turn.
I like the fact Robinson has shown himself as a leader on the field after his off-field problems. He makes defensive calls and adjustments for his teammates and that's a very good thing. Now, in terms of his own play, he's going to make NFL fans pull out their hair at times, because his tendency to go for the big play costs him on the back end at times.
Draft Status-At this point the no.2 CB in this draft is sort of up in the air, but Robinson has taken ahold for me. Being the no.2 corner behind a talent like Joe Haden is nothing to be ashamed of, and with more and more pass first offenses in the NFL, he's almost assured to be a top 20 pick.
Final Analysis-I'm not ashamed to admit I've come around some on Robinson. I think his shortcomings, mainly his lack of technique in press coverage, his lack of aggression and sound fundamentals in run support, and those stiff hips sort of kept me from seeing the good about his game. His ability to diagnose a play, read the QB, his hands (which are exceptional) plus the fact quarterbacks avoided him more this year, all work to his advantage. I think he'll make a solid NFL corner, especially in a system that plays more off coverage and allows for a safety over the top when he goes for the pick 6.
Reminds me of-Andre' Goodman, CB Denver Broncos-Both similar in size and style of play, I consider Robinson an upgraded version of Goodman. Good ball skills, not great run defender, and a very smart football player.
