What to do with Penn State?

Unless you've been living under a rock that doesn't have internet access, then you have heard that former FBI Director Louis Freeh returned his findings on his investigation of how Penn State handled the Jerry Sandusky situation.  Here is a link to the full report if you feel like drudging through all 267 pages.  http://assets.espn.go.com/pdf/2012/0712/psupressrelease.pdf  I did read through the vast majority of it, but Like secret agent Sterling Malory Archer says, "Broad strokes!".  No one really needs to read the whole thing to get the jist.  Powers that be, including now deceased former head football coach Joe Paterno, former Penn State President Graham Spanier, suspended AD Tim Curley, and retired vice president Gary Schultz  conspired to varying degrees to help Sandusky and impede his investigation.  The Freeh report was tel

College Football Pre-Season Top 25

Preseason Top 25

1. Alabama-Even with their losses, they are still so talented on both sides of the football.

2. USC-Probably a national title contender last year if not for their sanctions. Should be in the thick of it all year long.

3. LSU-Another team that took significant losses in terms of personnel but looks ready to reload.

4. Oklahoma-There are questions on both sides of the football, but you can’t deny the passing attack promises to be explosive.

5. Oregon-This ranking could change greatly if the Ducks struggle to find someone to step in for Darron Thomas at quarterback.

Predicting all the Bowl Games

Let's roll through the Bowls, all 35 of them, in chronological order (maybe). I'm going to lay out who's playing in each one and then make a prediction on who'll win. Yet again I'll point out if I put money on my own predictions my kids would starve. I heartily recommend that you don't base anything financial on my predictions!

 New Mexico Bowl
 Who: BYU vs. UTEP
 Winner: BYU

 uDrove Humanitarian Bowl
Who: Northern Illinois vs. Fresno State
 Winner: Fresno State

Ten Things I learned this week in college football

10. There is no reason to panic in Norman - Yes, the Oklahoma Sooners probably should have beaten the Texas A&M Aggies.  And their hopes for a Big 12 Title and BCS Bowl bid are pretty much gone.  But it's ok.  First, no Sooner fans went into this season with National Title aspirations, so let's not be shocked here that they aren't quite ready.  And look to the future.  This team is playing 13 Freshman on their two deep, and 13 more Sophomores.  So between 48 guys on their 2 deep, 26 are Freshman or Sophomores.  The future is bright.

College Football Preview - Week 2

This week's edition of the college football preview has me a little sad.  Why?  Because I never like picking against teams I like, especially my beloved Oklahoma Sooners.  I had Sooner (and Pittsburgh Steeler) crib sheets for crying out loud.  But this weekend, there's a big fat stack of premier matchups, I mean a big fat stack.  For this week's preview, I am going to look at 4 games that I can't imagine any real college football fan missing.

Denard Robinson is the King of Michigan

The darling of Week 1 of the 2010 college football season has to be University of Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson.  Robinson carved up the Uconn Huskies defense for nearly 400 yards of total offense, and 2 touchdowns en route to a 30-10 opening week victory.  The media is all abuzz with Robinson, calling him the new Heisman frontrunner, the new Pat White, and the savior of not only scumbag Rich Rodriguez’s job, but the Michigan football program.  I say he’s none of those things…..yet.

Pre-Season Top 10, er uhm 25ish poll and National Championship Prediction and stuff...

Parity in college football has created two things.  First is a strong push toward a playoff system (which I will talk about in another article), and second it means the importance of the first poll of the year is greater than ever.  Where you start the season is tough to take away from you, if you win, but if you get a crappy draw opening week, how far you can climb is going to be limited.  You all know I don’t ever do a real Pre-Season Top 25, mainly because it’s just not that big of an issue.  Odds are, a team in the first top ten will win the title, so beyond ten, it’s a serious climb to a BCS birth beyond a Conference Title.  So without further ado, my Pre-Season Top Ten, all the rest in whatever order, and my National Championship Prediction sure to go wrong.
