Predicting all the Bowl Games

Let's roll through the Bowls, all 35 of them, in chronological order (maybe). I'm going to lay out who's playing in each one and then make a prediction on who'll win. Yet again I'll point out if I put money on my own predictions my kids would starve. I heartily recommend that you don't base anything financial on my predictions!

 New Mexico Bowl
 Who: BYU vs. UTEP
 Winner: BYU

 uDrove Humanitarian Bowl
Who: Northern Illinois vs. Fresno State
 Winner: Fresno State

College Football Week One Preview

*** Firstly a note from the Editor - My apologies for the late arrival of this article. The Pitt/Utah game is already in the books but we've had some technical issues and we hope to give you a major site announcement very soon as well. A lot's been happening in the background in the run up to Week One but I can promise you we didn't re-write this article. Now over to Curt ***

College football is finally here and thank God. It couldn't come soon enough. This has been the longest offseason. I've had to deal with so much crap. From Lebron James and Tiger Woods to World Cup Soccer and all the whining that is Major League Baseball. Normally I can just tune out all the minutia but this year it was just too much to turn off.

Best of the Bunch-Defensive Line Edition

I decided this year to take a little different approach to ranking defensive lines.  On one hand you could look at stats, which is what I see a lot of pundits do.  Defenses that don't allow a lot of rush yards per game get a nod.  You could think about the potential NFL millionaires along the line, or you can look at the ability to rush he passer.  This year, I really only had 2 lines to consider and what it ultimately came down to for me was star power.

Best of the Bunch: Running Backs

Running back is a position that it seems no matter how many guys end up in the NFL, there are always a load of talented ball carriers to light up our Saturdays.  This year is no exception.  Because of this, it makes putting a top ten units together, much less picking a best unit all the more difficult.  One thing I had to consider is depth.  Just like in the NFL, the days of the feature back are rare.  Most teams platoon two backs and in some cases 3.  They use complimentary players, and specialists to help round out their rush offense.  So if you are a team like Oklahoma with a great talent like Demarco Murray and a bunch of untested guys behind him, you aren’t going to be in the hunt for the top.

Super Sophomores for 2010

Last season we were able to see a near record number of Freshman have impacts on their teams success.  This is all well and good but being able to repeat that success and better yet, improve on it, is what will be key.  These players have set the bar very high, and here's a player from each conference that I think will push it even further in the 2010 season.

Pre-Season Top 10, er uhm 25ish poll and National Championship Prediction and stuff...

Parity in college football has created two things.  First is a strong push toward a playoff system (which I will talk about in another article), and second it means the importance of the first poll of the year is greater than ever.  Where you start the season is tough to take away from you, if you win, but if you get a crappy draw opening week, how far you can climb is going to be limited.  You all know I don’t ever do a real Pre-Season Top 25, mainly because it’s just not that big of an issue.  Odds are, a team in the first top ten will win the title, so beyond ten, it’s a serious climb to a BCS birth beyond a Conference Title.  So without further ado, my Pre-Season Top Ten, all the rest in whatever order, and my National Championship Prediction sure to go wrong.

My way too early Heisman Predictions...

When I look at the guys I think deserve a shot at the Heisman Trophy I typically put them in 3 groups.  First are the obvious front runners.  Guys who play in bigtime programs, and have the hard throbbing endorsement of the media and their names will rape our ears all season long.

Second is the group of guys who are poised to win it, but get almost no love preseason from the masses so they either can’t get their name out there in time (Ndamukong Suh), or don’t get enough pub at all (Ryan Mathews).

The third group is that “nukka what?” group.  I call them that because every time I mention their name in the Heisman discussion, someone says “nukka what?”

My frontrunners
